Memory at 4-bit with a 32K-token context, the same estimate as our calculator, with about 10% of each GPU's memory left for the runtime. GPU costs run 24/7 for 730 hours a month. Our prices are the 1-year term; monthly terms cost a little more.
Where a Mac wins
- Memory per dollar. One M5 Ultra has 512 GB that the GPU uses directly. Getting that much on NVIDIA means several cards.
- A flat monthly price. No hourly meter, no egress surprises. It's your machine all month.
- Private by design. The model and your data stay on hardware only you use.
- One person or a small team. Answers stream faster than you can read for most models.
When GPUs are the better choice
- Serving many users at once. GPUs handle big batches of simultaneous requests far better.
- Training and heavy fine-tuning. NVIDIA hardware is much faster for training.
- CUDA-only software. Some tools only run on NVIDIA.
- Very long prompts. GPUs read long documents in faster before they start answering.
Not sure which fits you? Book a demo or rent a Mac for a day and test your own workload.
Where the GPU prices come from
Snapshot from October 2026. Marketplace rates are median on-demand prices per GPU: H100 (80 GB) $3.45/hr, H200 (141 GB) $4.44/hr, B200 (180 GB) $6.85/hr. AWS rates are on-demand 8-GPU instances in US regions, divided by 8 to get a per-GPU price: p5.48xlarge (8× H100) $55.04/hr, p5en.48xlarge (8× H200) $63.30/hr, p6-b200.48xlarge (8× B200) $113.93/hr. In practice AWS rents these GPUs as whole 8-GPU machines, so real bills for small models are often higher. Reserved and spot pricing can be lower; check the provider for current rates.
